Ethridge Lawrence Thornton

Ethridge Lawrence Thornton, age 86 of Penhook died Monday, December 17, 2007. She was born on June 16, 1921 a daughter of the late Johnny and Annie May Adkins Lawrence. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Henry Cabot Thornton, Sr. on August 1, 2007; brother Samuel Addison Lawrence; and sister Linda Faye Lawrence. She was an Elder of Cool Springs Christian Church and taught Sunday School for many years. Surviving are her son, H. C. Thornton, Jr., Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; daughter, Donna Collins, Martinsville; grandchildren, Brian Collins and Ann Marie Collins; brothers, Edward Lawrence of Penhook, Hilbert Lawrence of Penhook, Audrey Lawrence of Chatham; sisters Myrtle Thornton of College Park, MD, and Shirley Doss of Chatham; several nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Dale Walker, Jerry Dalton, Wilbur Thornton, Jeff Thornton, Marvin Thornton and J.M. Doss. Funeral services will be conducted from Flora Funeral Chapel 2 p.m. Thursday with Rev. Brian Vaughan and Rev. Roy Parker officiating. Interment will follow in the Adkins-Lawrence Family Cemetery in Pittsylvania County. Flowers will be appreciated or memorial contributions may be made to Cool Springs Christian Church, c/o Preston Davidson, 3150 Hatchett Rd., Penhook, Virginia 24137.
