Etter (Etta) Emma Nichols Snead, 77, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, July 26, 2015. Her presence would light up any room she entered, and after a long battle with cancer, she is now healed. She was born on May 20, 1938. She was preceded in death by her parents, Thurmond and Victoria Nichols; brothers Wilton Nichols (Bertha) and Chris Nichols; sisters Irene Price (Charles), Thelma Saunders (Leonard), Macie Riden (Harold), Hatha Jane Ritch (Bobby), and an infant sister.
Left to cherish her memory are her husband of 61 years, Lawrence; son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Margaret McManus; grandsons, Evan McManus, Daniel McManus, and Jackson McManus; sisters and brothers, Glendola Midkiff (Richard), Bessie Peters (Eugene), Della Mae Price (Breton), Bud Nichols (Shelby Jean “Bo”), and Edna Handy; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and special friend, Shirley Freeman.
Etta was retired from Ferrum College. She was a member of Christian Faith Baptist Church in Ferrum, VA, and served as Pastor’s wife there for 33 years.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, July 29, 2015 at Flora Funeral Home in Rocky Mount, VA with the Rev. George Smith, Rev. Calvin Adams, and Rev. Tracy Freeman officiating. Interment will follow in Endicott Hill Cemetery. Her family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, July 28, 2015 at Flora Funeral Service and Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
