Eugene Ferguson

Mr. Eugene (Gene) Ferguson of Rocky Mount died around 2 a.m. Monday, February 25, 2008. He was a proud Marine and one of the last surviving veterans of World War II and the battle of Iwo Jima. He is survived by his wife, Irene Ferguson: three sisters, Lucy Johnson. Nancy Jordan and Betty Wandel; and two brothers, Grover Ferguson and David Ferguson. He is survived by four children, Tanya Ferguson King, Carolyn Johnson, Jerry Ferguson and Linda Armetta. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews, and a large number of children who adopted him as their grandfather over the years. A graveside service will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday at Pigg River Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. The family extends a special “Thank You” to the Veterans Hospital in Salem, particularly the Cardiac ICIJ Unit and 4-i. Arrangements by Flora Funeral Service, Rocky Mount.
