Eunice Elizabeth Blackwell Boone, age 98 of Boones Mill died Sunday, January 9, 2011. She was born in Bedford, Virginia on September 9, 1912 a daughter of the late William Fletcher and Louise Hatcher Blackwell. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Reese Elbert Boone; brother, Fletcher Hatcher Blackwell; and sisters, Lucy Blackwell Sink and Louise Blackwell Wilson. Mrs. Boone worked for American Viscose for 20 years and 10 years for South Roanoke Nursing Home. She loved to cook and create new recipes for all to enjoy. Her hands were never idle and her lifestyle reflected the determined work ethic so characteristic of her generation. Even while raising her own two children she lovingly cared for foster children from the Children’s Home Society of Virginia. Mrs. Boone was a member of Red Valley United Methodist Church prior to transferring her membership to Burnt Chimney United Methodist Church. Surviving are her sons and daughters-in-law, Tony and Kathy (Loudermilk) Boone of Hardy, Fletcher and Pattie (Carter) Boone of Hardy; grandchildren, Timothy Boone of Shepherdstown, West Virginia, Evan, Kaitlyn, Mariah and Austin Boone, all of Hardy; several nieces and nephews; devoted caregiver, Darlene Smith and special friends Judy McGuire, Maxine Sink, Becky Vernon and Elise Knowles. The family would like to give special thanks to the nurses and staff of Carilion Hospice of Franklin County for their care and concern. Funeral services will be conducted from Burnt Chimney United Methodist Church 2 p.m. Thursday with Chaplain Rick Poland, Rev. Burton White, and Rev. Brad Dulaney officiating. Interment will follow in the Red Valley United Methodist Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Carilion Hospice of Franklin County, 390 South Main Street, Rocky Mount, Virginia 24151. Her family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Flora Funeral Service & Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
