Evelyn Gardner Bateman, age 84 of Rocky Mount passed away Monday, August 25, 2014. She passed away surrounded by friends and family at Sally K. Martin?s Faith Home. She was born on June 5, 1930 in Franklin County to the late Thomas Edwin Gardner and Virgie Woody Gardner. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Vincent Bateman; sisters, Nellie and Annie Gardner, Virginia Robertson, Callie Gray, Polly Martin; and brothers, Jeffrey, Herbert, Woody and Carroll Gardner. Mrs. Bateman attended Fork Mountain United Methodist Church prior to her illness. She was a homemaker that loved taking care of her family. Surviving are her daughter, Reba Bateman Whitt; son-in-law, Eddie Harold Whitt; granddaughter, Julia Anne Whitt of Powhatan; sister, Ivadell Ross; brother, Horace Gardner; sister-in-law, Pearl Beckner Gardner; and many nieces and nephews. The family would like to express their appreciation to Evelyn?s family and friends for their support during her many years of illness. Also, we want to thank Sally Martin and her staff at Faith Home in Glade Hill for their excellent care, Carilion Home Health and Hospice, CNA Pam Kesterson and CNA Janice Hodges. Funeral services will be conducted at Flora Funeral Chapel 1 p.m. Thursday, August 28, 2014 with Pastor Bobby Shively and Evelyn?s nephew, Pastor Ronald Gardner officiating. Interment will follow in Franklin Memorial Park. Flowers are appreciated or donations may be made to the Fork Mountain Rescue Squad or Fork Mountain United Methodist Church. Her family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 12 noon at Flora Funeral Service & Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
