Fletcher Nichols, age 83 of Ferrum passed away Wednesday, January 10, 2024. He was married to Betty Shorter for 51 years. He was long called by hunting friends as Green’s Creek Ridge Runner. Dad was either working at JW Hancocks, farming or getting ready to go coon hunting, rabbit, squirrel or deer hunting. Occasionally my sister and I would roam the woods with him. He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty; daughter, Donna; parents, Morgan and Mattie Nichols; brothers, Henry, Albert, Shermon, Sherwood, Hubert and Paul; sisters, Kathleen, Nancy, Pauline and Gladys. He is survived by his daughters, Teresa Smith (Roger), Tammy Brown (Ernest); brother, Harvey Nichols; adopted grandson, Mongomery Hensley (that Tammy was Nanny for) who liked coming to the country to ride dads tractors and playing on the farm. His is also survived by his favorite dog, Bella. Funeral services will be held at Flora Funeral Chapel 3:00 p.m. Saturday, January 13, 2024 with Rev. Bud Nichols officiating. Interment will follow in the Yopp Family Cemetery. Following the service there will be a meal at the Evangelistic House of Prayer Youth Center (Sawmill Road, Ferrum, VA 24088). His family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Friday Flora Funeral Service and Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
