Florence Louise Dodson

Mrs. Florence Louise Dodson, age 95, of Rocky Mount, Virginia, died peacefully on Friday, June 24, 2022. Known to her friends and family as "Louise," she was born May 17, 1927, to the late Edward L. and Maude Mullins Stanley of Ferrum, Virginia. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, James C. ("Jay") Dodson, a sister Nancy S. Haynes, and a brother, Joe E. Stanley. She is survived by her son, Richard E. Dodson, of Ojai, California, one niece and four nephews, including a very special nephew and his friend, Dean Haynes and Gladys McPherson of Rocky Mount, who were faithful to her until the end. Louise lived most of her life in the Brown Hill community of Franklin County before moving to Rocky Mount in 1998. Her interests were varied: She enjoyed homemaking, reading, sewing, music, and art. She always took great pleasure in making floral arrangements for the gravesites of her husband, parents, and parents-in-law every Memorial Day. She will be dearly remembered by all who knew her. Funeral services will be conducted at Flora Funeral Chapel, 2:00 p.m Monday, June 27, 2022 with Elder Junior Conner officiating. Interment will follow at Republican Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery, Ferrum, VA. Her family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. The family wishes to extend special thanks to Beverly and Joe Rutter and Carilion Clinic Hospice for their care during her final days.
