Floyd L. Strelow, 82, passed away on Wednesday May 3, 2017 at Roanoke Memorial Hospital in Roanoke, Virginia. Born on February 9, 1935 in his grandparents’ home in Wisconsin, he was the son of the late Clyde and Mildred Strelow. On November 4, 1961, he was united in marriage with Joan B. Stelzner, with whom he spent a wonderful and devoted marriage of 38 years until her passing on November 30,1999. Floyd earned a B.A. in Business Administration from the University of Wisconsin. After graduation, he joined the U.S. Army Reserve and served at Ft. Leonard Wood in Missouri for six months. He began work at Appleton Papers in Wisconsin in 1958. In 1972, he became a plant manager in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania where he worked for fifteen years. Floyd was active in community affairs such as the Harrisburg Chamber of Commerce and served on several boards for such groups as the Pennsylvania Economic Development Corporation, Americans for Competitive Enterprise System, Harrisburg Hospital Mental Health, and co-chairman of the Pennsylvania Labor Management Association. He also completed his Masters of Business Administration at Penn State University-Harrisburg and received their first Alumni Fellow Award. He was then transferred to corporate headquarters in Appleton as Director of Market Research for Appleton Papers. After retiring from Appleton Papers in 1990, Floyd decided to resume work and took a position as Director of Manufacturing for Nashua Corporation in Nashua, New Hampshire. In 1995 Floyd and Joan retired and had a home built at Smith Mountain Lake in Virginia, where they spent a blissful retirement together until Joan’s passing. Floyd was an avid golfer and active volunteer at Resurrection Catholic Church in Moneta, Virginia. He is survived by his children, Katherine Shank, James Strelow, and Jean Sokol, as well as their families including grandchildren Benjamin, Juniper, Daniel, Chloe, and Joshua. He is also survived by his sister Donna Richter, and brothers Clyde Strehlow, Gerald Strelow, and Thomas Strelow. In addition to his parents and wife, Floyd is preceded in death by his brothers Robert and Donald Strelow. A visitation will be held at the Resurrection Catholic Church at 15353 Moneta Rd, Moneta, Virginia, on Monday May 8, 2017 at 9:00 a.m., followed by a funeral service at 10:00 a.m. Interment will be held at the church at 11:00 a.m. followed by a reception at 11:30 a.m. All are welcome to attend. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Resurrection Catholic Church. Arrangements by Flora Funeral Service and Cremation Center, Rocky Mount/ Smith Mountain Lake.
