Frances Hudson Brooks at 92 is now dancing with joy in the presence of her Lord! Even from her early childhood in rural Franklin County, her family celebrated through music and dance. With family and friends coming together, their ‘music making’ was both a balm for the sorrows of the day and a shout of joy for a life lived to the fullest. Now Frances’ sorrows are no more and her joy is complete. She was born June 28, 1919 a daughter of the late John and Alice Byrd Hudson.
She was also preceded in death by her loyal, loving husband Elwin J. and daughter-in-law Ann; 4 sisters and 3 brothers; Vivian Perdue, Vera Maxey, Charlotte Young and Mamie Dalton, Reggie, Donald, John Albert Hudson, Jr. Surviving are her two sons and daughter; E. Wincel and his wife Kathleen in Hopewell; J. Michael (Mike), who faithfully provided care, and his special friend, Christina, whom mom loved; and daughter Diane Sink and Glen in Richmond.
Her legacy of hard work and Christian faith lives on in the lives of her six grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren living throughout the United States as well as abroad. Her many nieces and nephews, old and new friends will remember her resilience and strength. A private burial was held at Franklin Memorial Park.
The family will gather with friends for a memorial service Wednesday at 11:00 at Redwood Methodist Church. Following the service, the family will receive friends at a luncheon.
She was faithful all her years to her Lord Jesus Christ. She supported the growth of His church by giving generously to many ministries, including that of her grandson and his family who are missionaries, planting churches in the eastern European country of Riga, Latvia. The family asks that any memorial contributions be sent to that ministry at the following address: Campus Crusade for Christ, 7275 Cactus Road, Mechanicsville, VA, 23111.
