Frances Helena Agee Fisher, 89, of Rocky Mount, Virginia, passed away Saturday, June 20, 2009, at her daughter’s home in Bedford County. Frances was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Russell; her parents, Charlie and Cassie Smith Agee; two sisters and their husbands, Ruby and Clarence Belcher and Mary and Sam Thomas; and one brother and his wife, Demus and Ruby Agee, all of Eden, North Carolina. Surviving are children Everett, of Arlington; Danny, of Boones Mill; and Jill Bass, of Vinton (Bedford County); grandchildren David Bass, Amanda Bass, Dawn and Mark Lambert, and Lori Fisher; great grandchildren Cameron, Allison, and Morgan Lambert, and a very dear family friend, Grady Woodard, of Arlington. She is also survived by one brother and his wife, Willard and Jane Agee, of Borger, Texas, and nieces and nephews. Prior to her final illness, Frances lived most of her adult life in the home outside of Rocky Mount, leaving only when health prevented her continued independence. She loved to entertain friends and family in the home and enjoyed sharing crafts, decorations and good cooking with all that entered the home. For many years she provided loving care to neighborhood children and their families. These families became part of her and were loved dearly. She enjoyed decorating her entire home for all holidays but especially Christmas. Decorating and entertaining involved at least two months yearly and planning for the next year began as soon as the holiday ended. Her creativity and skill made the many crafts shared with others unique and she loved to make
treasures to give to others. Other joys included music, with a lovely voice; traveling and opening the world to her children; family near and far, keeping contact through the years with relatives both close and distant and friends from all stages of life. Frances was fortunate to have many wonderful friends, including many from the Fairview Church of the Brethren. Following the discovery of bone cancer throughout her body in February of this year, and her move to Vinton, she was grateful for the kindness and attention of caregivers from Generations Solutions and Good Samaritan Hospice, from personal caregivers, and from devoted neighbors. The family is thankful for caregivers Doris Musgrove, Camille Reynolds, and Pearl Fisher. Everett, Danny, and Grady are especially grateful for Jill
and Amanda, who provided constant care and attention to Mother’s needs and concerns throughout the last few months. Visitation will be Sunday, June 21st, 6-8 PM, at Flora Funeral Home, 665 South Main Street, Rocky Mount. The funeral service will be Monday, June 22nd, at 11 AM, at Fairview Church of the Brethren, located 4.5 miles west of Rocky Mount at 4638 Franklin Street (VA Route 40), with the Rev. Jeff Wray officiating. Interment will be at Mountain View Cemetery. Contributions may be made to Fairview Church of the Brethren, c/o Tommy Young, 60 Belmont Drive, Rocky Mount VA 24151, or to Good Samaritan Hospice, 2408 Electric Rd, SW, Roanoke, VA 24018.
