Frances Patterson Nix

Frances Patterson Nix, age 83 of Rocky Mount, VA, died on Saturday, October 27, 2018 at her home. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph Edward Patterson and Mary Ann Fralin Patterson; sister, Mary Ann Woody; and brother, Robert “Eddy” Patterson. She leaves behind her husband of 54 years, E. Thomas Nix; her son, Patrick T. Nix; daughter-in-law, Julie McBride Nix; two granddaughters, Zoë and Ella; two sisters, Emily McCraw and Evelyn Dowdy; sister-in-law, Linda Patterson; and a number of nieces and nephews. She was a teacher of Government and History for over 30 years at Franklin County High School. She was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church, where she served as Chair of the Altar Guild and Clerk of the Vestry. She was President of the Franklin County Retired Teachers Association and a member of the Carilion Franklin Memorial Auxiliary. A memorial service will be held at Trinity Episcopal Church, Rocky Mount, on Thursday, November 1, 2018 at 5:00 p.m. with Father David Taylor officiating. The family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. in the Parrish Hall prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Southern Virginia Child Advocacy Center or Trinity Episcopal Church Outreach Program.
