Frances Worley Hodges

Frances Worley Hodges, formerly of Ferrum, Virginia, died peacefully on Wednesday, April 5, 2023 at Richfield Living in Salem, Virginia.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Robert Shirley Hodges; parents, Claude Worley and Hattie Worley Hundley; sister, Gilda Worley Haley; and brothers, Buford Worley and Claude “Preacher” Worley, Jr.

She is survived by two sons, Anthony Hodges (Courtney) of Singers Glen, Virginia, and Jeff Hodges (Karyn McAden) of Salem; two grandchildren, Matthew Hodges (Dr. Kelsey Fath) of Austin, Texas, and Melanie Hodges (Blake Murrell) of Carmel, Indiana; and four special nieces, Susan Haley Arrington, Gina Haley Kennett, and Karen Hodges Burwell, all of Rocky Mount, and Crystal Worley of Ferrum.

A member of the last graduating class of Ferrum High School, Frances worked for many years at Franklin Minute Market in Rocky Mount and Frank’s Food Market in Ferrum.  She took tremendous pride in providing great customer service and cherished the many dear friends she made among coworkers and regular patrons alike. But, her greatest joy was her family; her devotion was unequaled, and she generously and steadfastly shared unconditional love as a wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, and aunt.

Special thanks to Richfield Living, which was home for Frances during the last four and a half years of her life. The staffs at The Oaks assisted living facility and The Health Center cared for her every day with compassion and affection, and the family will always be grateful for their support. The family is also indebted to Good Samaritan Hospice for their comfort and guidance.

Funeral services will be conducted from Flora Funeral Chapel 2 p.m. Monday, April 10, 2023 with Rev. Joe Dillon officiating. Interment will follow in Franklin Memorial Park. Her family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Flora Funeral Service and Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
