Frank Allan Tucker, Sr. departed the bonds of this earthly world on October 23, 2010. Frank was born in Taunton, Massachusetts in 1923 to Ralph and Mary Tucker. Upon his graduation from Taunton High School in 1941, he continued his education at Bryant College in Providence RI and completed an associate degree in Business.
In 1943 he joined the United State Coast Guard. With WWII in full swing, he was pressed into action (1944-45) as a coxswain of a “Higgins Boat”, a landing barge, from the cargo ship Aquarius. During his participation in 11 invasions in the Pacific he earned both a Purple Heart and Bronze Star saving several soldiers from his bombed boat.
In 2004, Frank was honored at a reception in Washington DC hosted by Secretary of Homeland Security, Michael Chertoff. Frank and the other honorees were recognized for their service and their valor.
Following the end of his active duty with the Coast Guard, Frank returned to the business world, working in the bottled gas business and as a manufacturer’s representative for plumbing supplies. He married his high school sweetheart, Joyce W. Watson Tucker. They raised a family in Crawfordsville, Indiana and retired to Dataw Island, SC and eventually to Smith Mountain Lake, Va.
He loved being surrounded by family, was an avid golfer, and had a passion for boating and being on the water. He is predeceased by his parents, a brother Robby Tucker, and a son Marc Tucker. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Joyce W. Tucker; a sister Emily Ettling (Bert) in Houston, TX; his sons – Frank (Skip) Tucker Jr.( Gayle) of St. Louis, MO, William (Vanessa) Tucker of New Castle, IN ; Chris (Kathy) Tucker of Salem, VA; his grandchildren – Matt Tucker (Laura), Dr. Julie T. Cecere (Tom), Sara Howsden (Mike), Jennifer Schmitt (Clayton), Cameron Tucker, and Adrian Tucker; and his great- grandson Carson Tucker.
A private burial will be held at a later date in Barrington, Rhode Island.
