Fred Alton Bassett

Fred Alton Bassett, age 86 of Rocky Mount died Sunday, April 21, 2024. He was born September 9, 1937 in Roanoke, Alabama a son of the late Fred and Gladys Bassett. He was also preceded in death by his son, Michael Bassett; and brother, Truman Bassett. Fred was a faithful member of Gogginsville Methodist Church and served as a Boy Scout Leader for many years. He also served his country in the United States Army and was a member of the local American Legion. Fred retired from Standard Register with many years of service. Surviving are his daughter, Sharon B. Jones; granddaughter, Taylor Jones; sister-in-law, Ellen Bassett; many nieces and nephews; other family and friends including, Joan Bassett, Bobby Moyer, Larry Wray and the Hudson/Sigmon family. Fred was a loving father, grandfather and friend to many. Funeral services will be conducted from Gogginsville Methodist Church 11 a.m. Wednesday with Rev. Kathryn Budzik officiating. Interment will follow in Franklin Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial donation to the Boones Mill Fire Department, P.O. Box 61, Boones Mill, Virginia 24065. His family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Flora Funeral Service and Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
