Freddie L. Vest, age 71 of Rocky Mount died Friday, October 26, 2007 at his home.
He was a member and Deacon of Furnace Creek Baptist Church, a U.S. Army veteran and a retired employee of DuPont with 31 years of service.
Following his retirement he was employed by Virginia Office Supply and Flora Funeral Service.
He was a son of the late Clarence and Nina Vest of Floyd. He was also preceded in death by a brother Harless Vest.
Freddie is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Shelby M. Vest; sons and daughters-in-law, Mark and Alison Vest, Wirtz, Greg and Terri Vest, Danville; his five grandchildren, Megan, Taylor, Jared, Nicholas and Luke; brother and sister-in-law Alton and Christine Vest, Floyd; sisters and brothers-in-law, Ina and Herbert Wood, Meadows of Dan, Claudine and Don Haynes, Lorine and David Huff, Floyd; numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted from Furnace Creek Baptist Church 2 p.m. Sunday, October 28, 2007 with Rev. Mike Lawhorn and Rev. David McCarty officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family has requested that memorial contributions be made to Furnace Creek Baptist Church Building Fund, 975 Scuffling Hill Road, Rocky Mount, VA 24151.
Friends may call after 3 p.m. Saturday, October 27, 2007 with his family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m. at Flora Funeral Service, 665 South Main Street, Rocky Mount.
