Frederick Michael Crofts, 77 of Smith Mountain Lake passed away Sunday, October 23, 2016 at his residence. He was born February 23, 1939, in Niagara Falls, New York, son of the late Frederick and Edith Crofts. He is also preceded in death by his wife; Caroline Crofts and Son Michael Crofts. Surviving are a Daughter and Son-in-Law; Debbie and Jim Gillespie; his grandchildren Brooke and James Gillespie. He attended Hobart College from 1957 to 1961, where he was an active member of the Theta Delta Chi Fraternity and from there he went on to earn a master’s degree from The University of Pittsburgh. Mr. Crofts joined the United States Navy, was assigned to the USS Winston and was honorably discharged on April 10, 1965. He was an active member at Trinity Ecumenical Parish, served on many committees and was also a member of Waterfront Country Club, CASA, Lions Club and The Lake Christians Ministries, and was a huge fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers. Memorial services with military honors will be held at Trinity Ecumenical Parish on Saturday, October 29th at 10:00 AM.
