Gail Edwin Sigmon, age 95 of Ferrum departed this life Sunday, October 16, 2016. He was born April 9, 1921 a son of the late Andrew Jackson and Annie Laura Gusler Sigmon. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Edith McGhee Sigmon; brother, Grady Andrew Sigmon; and sisters, Ocie Sloan Richardson, Myrtle Kahawjy, Roxie Wimmer. Surviving are his son, Walter Gail Sigmon; grandsons, Brock Sigmon, Seth Sigmon; sisters-in-law, Maude Rakes, Hester DePue, Velma McGhee; brother-in-law, Bob Stowell; numerous nieces and nephews to which he considered each one to be his “favorite”. Gail loved his family and friends and he will be deeply missed by all. He was an active member of Saint James United Methodist Church in Ferrum, and a United States Army Veteran of World War II. Gail was a self-taught carpenter who built hundreds of homes throughout the county and surrounding areas. As he would say “Built strong to last long”. Special thanks to Carilion Hospice and Sally Martin for their outstanding care in his final days. Flowers will be accepted but a donation to Saint James Church or Ferrum Rescue Squad is preferred. Funeral services will be conducted at Flora Funeral Chapel, 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 19, 2016 with Rev. Mary White and Lay Leader Larry Meadows officiating. Interment will follow in Franklin Memorial Park. His family will receive friends 5-7 p.m. Tuesday at Flora Funeral Service and Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
