Galen B. Flora

Galen B. Flora, age 92 of Boones Mill died Thursday, December 6, 2012 at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital. He was born February 1, 1920, a son of the late Jesse David Flora and Hattie Barnhart Flora. He was also preceded in death by his wife Rada Flora; his beloved daughter, Mary Clingenpeel and her husband, Floyd Clingenpeel; brother, David Bentley Flora; sisters, Wilda F. Barnhart, Novella F. Dudley, Joyce F. Wright, Jewell F. Ferguson and Bernice F. Woodford. Mr. Flora was a lifelong member of Germantown Brick Church of the Brethren, and was retired farmer and sold produce and fruit on the Roanoke City Market for 60 years. Mr. Flora is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Leland W. and Sharon Flora, of Hardy, Gary B. and Nancy Flora, of Boones Mill; grandchildren, Beth Steimle and husband, Aaron, Jay Clingenpeel and wife, Vericona, Melia Chitwood and husband, Brandon, Jared Flora, Kim Carter and husband, Jeff, Doug Flora and wife, Elizabeth; nine great-grandchildren, Devin Flora, Clarissa Flora, Anna Carter, Grace Carter, Julia Carter, Victoria Clingenpeel, Natalie Clingenpeel, Colton Clingenpeel, and Reid Chitwood; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Monday, December 10, 2012 from Germantown Brick Church of the Brethren with the Rev. Bruce Huffman and the Rev. Dr. Jeff Carter officiating. Interment will follow in Franklin Memorial Park. The family expresses appreciation to Franklin Health Care for their support and caring attitude. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Germantown Brick Church of the Brethren, 2363 Brick Church Road, Rocky Mount, Virginia 24151. His family will be receiving friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, December 9, 2012 at Flora Funeral Service and Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
