Gene Elisha Moyer, age 71 of Rocky Mount, entered his heavenly home Tuesday, May 20, 2014, after a brief illness and battle with Alzheimer?s. He worked at Fieldcrest Cannon in Fieldale, VA for over 30 years. He was a lifetime member of the Rocky Mount Volunteer Rescue Squad as well as a dedicated member at Fairview Church of the Brethren in Rocky Mount. Gene was preceded in death by his parents, George Washington and Elsie Wood Moyer; his father and mother-in-law, Daniel Garland and Izura Lake Jones; and brothers-in-law, William D. Montgomery, Donald Jones, and Jack Jones. Gene leaves behind his devoted wife of 48 years, Bernice Jones Moyer; and two daughters, Pamela (Jay) Hodges and Patricia (Chris) Haskins; grandchildren, Daniel Jay Hodges, Jaydan Lake Hodges, and Colton Elisha Haskins. Also surviving are his brother, Robert L. "Bobby" (Faye) Moyer; his sisters, Thalia (Lloyd) Altice, and Deborah Montgomery; half-brother, Ronald (Eleanor) Moyer; brothers-in-law, Billy (Norma Jean) Jones, Jessie (Sandy) Jones; sisters-in-law, Nancy (Jackie) Woods, Betty Jones, and Judy Jones; special uncle and aunt, Lax and Sunie Mitchell; many special nieces, nephews, and friends. Funeral services will be conducted at Fairview Church of the Brethren 11 a.m. Friday with Pastors Jeff Wray and Doug Jones officiating. Interment will follow in Franklin Memorial Park.
