Gene Hodges, Sr.

Charles Gene Hodges, Sr. of Rocky Mount, went to his eternal home on Monday, January 2, 2017 at the age of 85. Gene was born on October 17, 1931 to his late mother, Mary Dowdy. He was also preceded in death by his middle son, Barry Neil Hodges. He has been a member of the Rocky Mount Moose Lodge #1053 for the majority of his adult life and a former member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles in Bassett. He is survived by his faithful companion of 31 years, Joyce Cain, his sons Charles G. Hodges, Jr. (Betty); Jay L. Hodges (Pamela); daughters, Aileen Pearce (Sydney); and Sandra Rickmond; step daughter, Cindy Killian(Gerald). Gene had five grandchildren, one-step grandchild, and one great-grandchild; One brother, Jerry Dowdy (Karen) of South Carolina, and additional family members Joseph Barnett, Jr. (Jackie) and James Barnett (Vicki), Paula Burton (Larry). He loved his rocking chair buddy and canine companion, Lady. The family wishes to thank Franklin Health and Rehab, Carillion Hospice, Team Nurse and a special neighbor and friend, Joey Cooper, for all their help and support provided. Funeral Services will be at Flora Funeral Chapel, 2:00 p.m. Thursday, January 5, 2017 with Rev. Denver Turner officiating. Interment will follow in Franklin Memorial Park. His family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
