Gene E. Thompson “Bud”, age 78 of Rocky Mount died Saturday, October 13, 2012. He was a loving husband, doting father and would do anything for his family. He spent his working career at Cooper Wood Products where he was a supervisor. He was a great fan of NASCAR and enjoyed the races and his favorite driver, Bill Elliott. Bud was preceded in death by his infant son, Phillip Wayne Thompson; parents, Peter and Maude Sigmon Thompson; and brothers, Curtis and Buford Thompson. Surviving are his wife, Lois Altice Thompson; two daughters, Barbara Thompson Tolliver (Johnny), Brenda Thompson; brother, Lester Thompson of Ferrum; sister, Gladys Tosh of Rocky Mount; several nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be conducted from the Oak Grove Church of the Brethren Cemetery 11 a.m. Monday with Rev. Richard Thomas officiating. Flowers will be accepted or memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society. His family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Sunday at Flora Funeral Service & Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
