General Jackson Daniel Rakes

General Jackson Daniel Rakes, 82, of Rocky Mount, Va. died February 18, 2009. He was born November 8, 1926 in Endicott, Va. to the late Peyton and Virginia Florence Setliff Rakes. Sergeant Rakes retired from the military after serving his country for 20 years. He retired from Stanley Furniture Co. after 33 years. He was also preceded in death by his daughter Karol Ann Rakes; brothers Charles and David Rakes; half brothers Artis and Harbour Rakes and half sister Nancy R. Piaggio. He is survived by his wife Ruth Fecker Rakes; daughter Gerlinde Florance Rakes Maxey, her husband Johnny; two grandchildren Daniel and Matthew Maxey, all of Boones Mill, Va. The family will receive friends at from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Flora Funeral Service. Graveside services will be conducted 2;00 p.m. Saturday at Franklin Memorial Park.
