George Dillard Davis, age 68 of Rocky Mount passed away February 14, 2024. He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Jefferson Davis, Sr., and Edna Frances Mays; sister, Lillian Stegall (Herbert); brother, Thomas J. (Buck) Davis, Jr., (Avis, deceased). Surviving are his wife, Janice Anderson Davis; daughter, Robin Davis Kennedy (Crystal); step-daughters, Christy Hodges Ploch and Carrie Hodges Thomas (Brad); grandchildren, Sam Ploch (Adina and daughter Bella), Abram Ploch and Lucas Thomas; great‑grandchild, Beckham Gray Ploch; sisters, Sherry Johnson (Tom, deceased), Dora Davis Byrd (Mike); in-laws, Duck Akers (Brenda, deceased), Delphie Grindstaff (Darryl, deceased), Larry Anderson (Delores) and Tammi Anderson Mitchell (Danny); very special friends, Keith and DeEtta Gillespie, Leonard and Rachel Law along with numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews. George worked for Davenport Energy for 15 years and after retirement, worked for Chris Green and Rainer Jenkins. Nothing gave him more pleasure than fishing at Philpott and Buggs Island. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Bethlehem United Methodist Church, c/o Rita Doughton, 2085 Crooked Oak Road., Rocky Mount, VA  24151. A Celebration of Life will be held at Bethlehem United Methodist Church, 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 17, 2024 with Rev. David McIntyre and Rev. Chris Bennett officiating. His family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Arrangements by Flora Funeral Service and Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
