George Raymond Johnson

George Raymond Johnson, (Papa J), 88, of Union Hall passed away on February 4th, 2015. Born on July 16th, 1926, Raymond was raised in Redwood, Virginia by the late George Henry and Annie Altice Johnson. He proudly served our country in the United States Navy. Raymond retired from DuPont with 38 years of service and was a member of Penhook United Methodist Church. After retirement Raymond fulfilled his dream when he and wife, Theresa moved to Smith Mountain Lake, VA. He remained active working in his garden, boating and fishing on the lake. He was preceded in death by his wife, Theresa Law Johnson, a brother Marvin Johnson and sister Ruby Ferguson. Surviving are daughter and son-in-law, Terri and Marty Kennedy of Indian Trail, NC, sons and daughters-in-law, Greg and Vicki Johnson of Mt. Pleasant, SC and Joey and Kim Johnson of San Antonio, Texas; 6 grandchildren, Brittany Johnson and Austin Smedley, Caroline and Hannah Johnson, Adam Robertson and Zoey Johnson. Funeral services will be conducted at Flora Funeral Chapel in Rocky Mount, VA at 2:00 pm on Sunday February 8th with the Rev. Judy Short officiating. Interment will follow in Franklin Memorial Park.
