George Jackson Porter

George Jackson Porter, age 86 of Boones Mill, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, July 20, 2016. He is survived by his loving wife Ramona, his sons; John A. Porter (Jackie), Stephen L. Porter (Lori) and daughter Ramona Porter Kern; grandchildren; Jacob A. Porter, Jennifer L. Porter, Kristina A. Guilliams (Jamie) and Abigail L. Porter; great-grandchildren Oscar Porter, Olivia Porter, Kayleigh Porter and Adalynn Porter. George was preceded in death by his parents; James and Margaret Porter of Roanoke, VA, brothers; Jim, Ted, Steve, Frank and sister Betty Porter Quinn. George was born March 26, 1930 in Montvale, VA. He graduated from Jefferson High School in Roanoke and served his country proudly in the United States Air Force and Air National Guard as a Master Sergeant. George was a loving husband for 61 years, and a wonderful father, grandfather, friend and teacher to everyone he met. George retired in 1992 and spent his retirement years enjoying his family, pets, bird watching, gardening, and building and flying remote controlled airplanes in Franklin County and Roanoke. Memorial services will be conducted at Flora Funeral Chapel in Rocky Mount, VA on Saturday, July 23 at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to the Franklin County SPCA. His family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Flora Funeral Service and Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
