George Taylor "Slim" Johnson, age 82 of Fork Mountain died Tuesday, April 29, 2014. He was a United States Air Force Veteran of the Korean War. He was a member of Victory Baptist Church where he served as usher. Slim was a former employee of Cooper Wood Products and enjoyed working on the farm. He loved car racing and fishing. He was preceded in death by his parents, James Hughie and Nobie Robertson Johnson; brother, James McArthur Johnson; and son, Daryle Wayne Johnson who followed him in death on April 30, 2014. Surviving are his wife of 48 years, Polly Knott Johnson; daughter, Robin Johnson Galyean (Andy); daughter-in-law, Brittany; three grandchildren whom he adored, Kaylee, Alex and Blake; sisters, Virginia McCormick, Helen Knott, Barbara Jean Buckner, Emily Forbes, Carolyn Forbes (Larry), Sue Johnson; sister-in-law, Virginia Johnson. Graveside service will be conducted 2 p.m. Saturday at Franklin Memorial Park with Rev. Ronnie Rigney officiating. His family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Friday at Flora Funeral Service & Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
