George Patrick Urias, 85, of Smith Mountain Lake, Virginia, passed away on April 9, 2014, of complications from ALS with his wife Gloria by his side.
  
  
  
  
  George was born in Bakersfield, California on July 21, 1928. He graduated from Garfield High School located in East Los Angeles and then enlisted in the Army Air Corp. He was stationed at Eglin Air Force Base in Pensacola, Florida for four years. From there, he moved back to California to pursue his post-secondary studies at the University of Southern California.
  
  
  
  
  During his career in the aerospace industry, George worked for a number of companies such as Aerojet General, Hycon and McDonnell Douglas where he was Vice President of Marketing and Microelectronics. He then went to work with Tadiran/Ellissra for the next 19 years where he was the Director of Marketing of Communication of Warfare. He enjoyed playing golf, travelling, fishing, hunting, cars, home improvement projects and jig saw puzzles. He and his wife were also actively involved in the Kennedy Center, the SML Discovery Shop, American Red Cross Disaster Services, president of the Friends of the Reston Library and a graudate of the Sherriff's Citizens Academy of Franklin County.
  
  
  
  
  Memorial services will be held on Sunday at 2 PM on April 13, 2014, at Flora Funeral Service in Rocky Mount, VA. His family will receive friends 6-8:00 p.m. Saturday at the residence, 180 Spinnaker Sail Court, Moneta, Va. 24121.
  
  
  George and Gloria met in St. Louis, Missouri, and were married on April 27, 1985.
  
  
  
  
  George is survived by his devoted wife, Gloria, of 29 years, by his daughters Carole Urias and Lisa Urias Umbel, his son, David Urias, his grandchildren Richard Umbel, Jr., Nitzannah Urias and Alexander Urias, his sisters, Lori Knappenberger-Urias, Juanita Lohran and Elizabeth Urias and his brothers, John Urias and Richard Urias.
