Washington D.C. Radio Personality Jerry Gray

Gerald Ralph Poulsen (Jerry Gray), 78 went home to be with the Lord Thursday due to complications from a heart transplant 22 years prior. Jerry was a life-long lover of bluegrass and traditional country music and shared his passion and his vast knowledge of this music with radio fans for more than 40 years.
Jerry was a self-taught musician and a native of Washington, D.C., where he attended the American University School of Broadcasting. He began his broadcasting career at WFTR in Front Royal, VA, and eventually found his way back to American University via WAMU where he was an on-air personality for more than 20 years. His love of bluegrass, western and traditional country music was infectious as demonstrated by his loyal following.
He suffered a serious heart attack in 1989, and was blessed to receive a heart transplant in 1990. That generous gift made by a grieving family extended his life for 22 years.
Jerry is survived by his wife Kay Poulsen; daughter Donna Catron; son Jon Poulsen; daughter Lora Whitehurst; son Mark Poulsen; daughter Kathryn Dorshimer; sister Jean Keune; and his mother Vesta Poulsen, as well as 9 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.
The family will receive friends at Welcome Grove Baptist Church, 7268 Newland Rd., Warsaw, VA, on Tuesday at noon; where the funeral will take place at 1 pm.
Interment will follow in church cemetery. Arrangements by Flora Funeral Service and Cremation Center, Rocky Mount/ Smith Mountain Lake.
