Gerald Lee Wray, age 84 of Rocky Mount passed away Wednesday, March 13, 2013 following a long battle with cancer. Born April 23, 1928 a son of the late Berger and Lois Thurman Wray, he was also preceded in death by his sister, Charlotte Zeigler; brother and sister-in-law, Jack Owen and Edith Wray; brothers-in-law, Lewis Brown and Greg Hallmark. Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Ada Brown Wray; daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn and Richard Johnson; son and daughter-in-law, David and Sadhana Wray; grandchildren, Candice and Andy Wyant, Matthew Johnson and Samantha Wray; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Jean and Clyde Mullins, James and Jeanette Brown, Merle and Billy Eames, George and Linda Brown, Jerry and Butch Foster, Lou and Charles Lynch, Brenda and Roger Franklin, Betty Brown, Bobby Zeigler; many nieces and nephews. Gerald was a member of Redwood United Methodist Church and had long memories of the old Redwood Church on Route 40 as a young boy. He served his country during the Korean War in the United States Army. Gerald loved his Beagles and was a member of the Mountain Valley Beagle Club which started in Rocky Mount and is now located in Gretna. He was also a member of the VFW and the American Legion. Funeral services will be conducted from Redwood United Methodist Church 11 a.m. Saturday with Rev. Bradley S. Dulaney officiating. Interment will follow in Franklin Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Redwood United Methodist Church Building Fund. His family will receive friends 5-8 p.m. Friday at Flora Funeral Service & Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
