Gertrude Wray, age 88, widow of Lewis O. (Dick) Wray, of Wirtz, VA and daughter of the late George Lee and Frances Jones Wray, passed away on Sunday, January 4, 2009.
She was also preceded by a son-in-law, Gerald W. Hall; a former daughter-in-law, Linda Fralin Wray; two brothers and five sisters.
She was a lifelong resident of Franklin County and a devoted member of Rehoboth United Methodist Church. Mrs. Wray’s favorite pastimes were reading, crocheting, working puzzles and tending her many flowers. She spent her life happily surround by family, extended family and dear friends.
Left to mourn the passing of their beloved mother and mother-in-law are her children, Judy W. Hall, Barbara W. and Grover Plunkett, Lewis O. Wray, Jr., Joseph Barry and Nelda A. Wray and David E. and Jean W. Wray. She also leaves ten special grandchildren, Pam H. and Mike Perdue, Denita P. Wray, Tony Plunkett, Keith and Robyn Wray, Darren and Edma Wray, Joe Wray and friend, Laurie Hager, Brad Wray and friend, Stephanie Bradley, Kevin and Cathy Wray, Shannon and Lesley Wray, and Mike and Heather Wray; and nine special great-grandchildren, Travis Perdue, Seth Wray, Jordan Wray, Brandon and Emily Wray, Kayla and Hunter Wray, Hannah and Karlee Wray, all of whom were very dear to her heart. Also surviving are one brother and sister-in-law, Henry and Mary “Nancy” Wray; two sisters, Mrs. Bill (Vergie) Bauman and Mrs. Kyle (Lura) Otey; her friend and husbands’ sister-in-law, Mrs. Joe (Vera) Wray, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted from Rehoboth United Methodist Church 11 a.m. Tuesday with her special niece Mary Ann Metz and Rev. Joe Dillon officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
