Gertrude Nichols Young, born November 15, 1919 of Callaway, died peacefully and surrounded by all of her children, November 28, 2015. Mrs. Young loved the Lord and enjoyed attending church as long as her health permitted. She also enjoyed her gardens, both vegetables and flowers. People would drive for miles just to look at her flowers. She passed her love of flowers on to her children. Mrs. Young loved singing and whistling. Mrs. Young was preceded in death by her loving husband, Roy Lee Young; and a son, Richard Lee Young, her parents Robert Aldine and Lucy Evelyn Holt Nichols; brothers, Wayne, Winford and Sherman Nichols, sons-in-law, Dennis Sink and Garland Nichols, a granddaughter, Susan Martin Curran, 5 great-grandchildren; D.J. Young, Matthew Martin, Kristopher Stevens, Galen Curran and Zane Osborne, brothers-in-law; John Sloan and Kenneth Beckner. Surviving to cherish her memory are daughters and sons-in-law; Helen and Melvin Collins, Nancy Sink , Janice Nichols, Peggy and Charles Aldridge , Lois Marie Young, and son, Roy Glenn Young, 23 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren, 17 great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by sisters, Nadine Sloan and Shirley (Jim) Mohler and brothers, Alton (Pauline) Nichols, Clyde (Glenna) Nichols and Dannie Nichols, sisters-in-law, Effie Nichols and Ruth Nichols. Funeral services will be conducted 12 noon, Monday, November 30, 2015 at Flora Funeral Chapel with Rev. Tim Nichols officiating. Interment will follow in Adney Gap Cemetery.
