Gladys Elizabeth Ellis Powers, age 88 of Hardy entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, October 31, 2007 surrounded by the presence of God and her loving family.
She was born August 17, 1919 to the late Thomas Ellis and Bessie Bobbitt Ellis. Gladys was a faithful member of Oylers Chapel United Methodist Church and worked for the Master as long as her health permitted, holding many positions within the church, perhaps her favorite thing was singing in the choir. She was a homemaker and childcare provider for many families and loved everyone’s children.
In addition to her parents, her husband, Troy C. Powers preceded her in death in March of this year. She was also preceded in death by one sister, Hazel Brown; and two brothers, Kyle and Junior Ellis.
Surviving are her two sisters and one brother-in-law, Dorothy Wuergler and Lorraine and Billy Meador of Moneta; her foster daughter, Anne Laurie Munson and husband Dave, Murfreesboro, Tenn.; her foster son Richard Wyrick; two foster grandsons, Andrew and Ricky Wyrick; two sisters-in-law, Antholeen Ellis and Myrtle Ellis, Vinton; and many nieces and nephews.
We extend a special thank you to our dear friends at Trinity Mission Healthcare who have become our second family as they cared for Troy and Gladys for the last five years of their life. Also our deep appreciation to Rita Jenkins for her love and Kindness shown to “Aunt Gaggy and Uncle Troy”.
Funeral services will be conducted from Oylers Chapel United Methodist Church 11 a.m. Saturday with Rev. Rick Barton officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends Friday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Flora Funeral Service, 665 South Main Street, Rocky Mount.
