Goldie Webb Cooper, 84 years young, of Wirtz, VA went to her immortal home on June 4, 2008. Goldie was born on June 18, 1923 in Ferrum, VA then moved to Callaway, VA as a young child. She graduated from Callaway High School in 1940 and National Business College, Roanoke, VA in 1942. Helping people from Roanoke to Norfolk, VA and to the coalfields of Welch, WV, Goldie dedicated herself to a 35-year career of public service with the U.S. Federal Government starting with the Veteran’s Administration, the Social Security Administration, and the Bureau of Hearing and Appeals. Goldie retired in 1983. This Five Mile Mountain Rd. girl dearly loved old time and bluegrass music, square dancing, Phoebe Needles and Las Vegas. She also loved Sandy Ridge Baptist Church and her church family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Warren H. Cooper, Sr.; her father and mother, Posey and Clara Guilliams Webb; her sister and brother-in-law, Gladys Webb (Lewis) Jamison; and her brother, Lewis M (Jr.) Webb. Goldie is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Coy (Polly) Cooper, Wirtz, VA, David (Linda) Cooper, Rocky Mount, VA; sons, Thomas Dewey Cooper and Warren H. (Mickey) Cooper, Jr., Wirtz, VA; and daughter, Bonnie Cooper Law, Wirtz, VA. Surviving grandchildren are Michael (Kathy) Bailey, Barrett (Renee) Cooper, Doug (Kim) Cooper, Pamela Cooper Thacker, Susan Cooper, Jennifer Cooper (Steve) Miracle, Tammy Cooper (Paul) Schiemann, Kasey Cooper Helms, Warren H. (Trey) Cooper, III, and Kenzie April Law. Surviving great-grandchildren are Jordan, Brooke, Anna and Emma Cooper; Joshua Thacker; Zach, Linsey and Zoe Schiemann, Kattie and Kendal Helms; Sarah and Chris (Amie) Pendleton. Surviving great-great grandchild, Isabelle Pendleton; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Marie Willis, Glenn Cooper, Ruby and Bill Donavan, Jeannine Cooper, Virginia Webb. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted from Sandy Ridge Baptist Church 11 a.m. Saturday with Rev. Joe Dillon officiating. She will take her final ride to Callaway, VA to her resting place in the Cooper Family Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Sandy Ridge Baptist Church Building Fund, 1444 Bonbrook Mill Road, Rocky Mount, VA. 24151. Friends may call after 3 p.m. on Friday with her family receiving friends from 6-8 p.m. at Flora Funeral Service, 665 South Main Street, Rocky Mount.
