Goldie Elizabeth Smith Pugh, age 87 of Rocky Mount went to be with her Lord and Savior Sunday, August 12, 2012. She was born to the late Roy Silas Smith and Livie Brown Smith July 3, 1925. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Silas Alvin Smith; sister, Lucille Smith Dillon; nieces, Melissa Divers-Lance, Anita Ciolli and Jennifer Mulkey. Goldie grew up in the Scruggs section of Franklin County and left as a teenager to work in Baltimore, Maryland during World War II. She eventually moved back to Franklin County, married and started a family. She became a hairdresser and owned her salon from 1960 until she retired in 1976. She was a member of Rocky Mount Christian Church. Goldie enjoyed life and loved being with family and friends. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, dancing and listening to bluegrass music. She had a witty and fun-loving spirit and a kind and loving heart. She was a dedicated wife, mother and friend. Left to cherish her life and memory are her husband of 67 years, Burton G. “Spike” Pugh; daughters, Sharon Parcell (David) of Midlothian, VA, Cynthia Barrett (Terrill) of Wirtz, Sheila Pugh of Roanoke; grandchildren, Kay Hoff (Christopher) of Williamsburg, Sonya Thompson (Mike) of Bassett and Jill Parcell of Richmond; great-grandchildren, Christiana, Delaney and Ethan Hoff of Williamsburg, Abigail and Jackson Thompson of Bassett; sisters, Vaughnie Southall, Pauline Divers (Glenwood), Christine Angle (Ben) and Shirley Lanni (Ed); numerous nieces, nephews and an abundance of close friends. Special mention to Alice Young, Dot and James Webb, Steve Guilliams, David and Raine Bowles and to Rocky Mount Fire Department. Her family will receive friends 5-8 p.m. Tuesday, August 14, 2012 at Rocky Mount Christian Church. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, August 15, 2012 at Rocky Mount Christian Church with Rev. Matthew Ricks and Pastor Joe Dillon officiating. Interment will follow in Franklin Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Rocky Mount Christian Church or the Rocky Mount Fire Department. Arrangements by Flora Funeral Service & Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
