Gordon Eugene Albright, 96, of Rocky Mount, formerly of Thibodaux, La., passed away Friday, July 20, 2007.
Born September 1, 1910, in Cache Illinois, he was the son of John Edward Albright and Nannie Elizabeth Long.
Gordon, known as Doc by his family friends and business associates, spent much of his boyhood in Cache, later moving to Arkansas with his mother and two brothers, Edward and Jerry.
He graduated from Indiana Tech in Civil Engineering and spent World War II in the he Corps of Engineers in Mobile, Ala., with his wife Dorothy Wilkinson Albright of August, Ga. After the war, he and Dorothy settled in Thibodaux, La., where they raised their two children, Dea and Larry and Doc founded A&M Construction Company. In 2001 Gordon moved to Rocky Mount, Va., to live with family.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy; his mother, father and two brothers.
He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Dea and Walter McClure and his son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Janice Albright. Other surviving family members include six grandchildren, Kim and her husband Don, Michelle, Rachel and her husband Mike, Megan and her husband Brian, Heather and Courtney; ten great-grandchildren, Hank, Rebecca, Macy, Boston, Eva, Autumn, Paige, Cole, Addie and Brody; six stepgrandchildren, including Chris and Lori McClure of Rocky Mount and Jean Paul and Kathy Theriot of South Carolina and 11 great-stepgrandchildren, including Anna and Jacob of Rocky Mount and Kaitlyn and Joshua of South Carolina. Gordon is also survived by three nieces, Marilyn, Prissie and Virginia; seven great-nieces and nephews and 12 great-great nieces and nephews by his brother Ed; and nieces and great-nieces and nephews by his brother Jerry.
