Grace Ann Rowell Swartz of Boones Mill, VA went to be with her Lord on Saturday, May 10, 2008 at Lewis-Gale Medical Center, Salem, VA.
Born February 24, 1946 in Tacoma Park, MD, she was the daughter of Margaret Elizabeth Rowell of Greenville, SC and the late John Russell Rowell.
She is survived by her husband of 38 years Gary Lee and daughter, Margaret Irene Swartz; brothers Dr. John R. Rowell, Jr. of Greenville, SC, and William Edward Rowell of Gettysburg, PA.
Grace was a graduate of Montgomery Blair High School, Silver Spring, MD and the University of Maryland. For several years following graduation she taught art in Maryland public and Christian schools. Grace placed her faith in the Lord Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of her sins while attending college and was active in the churches she attended as well as in numerous Bible studies over the years.
Grace found some of her greatest pleasure in making a home for her family, and encouraging her husband and daughter to love the Lord. She also enjoyed gardening, painting, and offering hospitality.
In recent years she was an active volunteer with the American Cancer Society's "Look Good, Feel Better" program for women going through cancer treatment.
Services with be conducted from Flora Funeral Chapel 11 a.m. Friday, May 16, The Rev. Daniel R. Swartz will officiate. Burial will be at Antioch Church of the Brethren Cemetery, Callaway Road, Rocky Mount, VA.
