Greta Julia (Thornton) Mcpherson

Greta Julia (Thornton) McPherson, age 84 of Callaway, went home to be with her Savior on Tuesday, November 6, 2018. She was preceded in death by her husband, Reverend Robert B. McPherson and her parents, Okey and Nellie Thornton and four brothers and a sister. A woman of contagious faith, grace and dignity, who served the Lord since the age of 15, “Sister Mack” was an anointed teacher of scripture and the help-mate God created specifically for her husband as they worked side-by-side in ministry for 50 years. For the past 18 years, Sister Mack was a faithful and revered matriarch of the Callaway Church of God who loved her church family dearly. A devoted wife, precious mother, adored Mammaw and valuable mentor to many, she exuded great strength and imparted Godly wisdom as she ministered with love and tenderness to the physical and spiritual needs of her natural and church families. She is survived by a sister, Rena Tomblin; her children, Letitia Martin (Todd), Teresa Pagen (Bill), Carmen Lyon (Dana), and Robert McPherson II (Kendra); as well as her grandchildren, Michelle, Stephanie, Alan, Brittney, Emily, Cade, and Jasher; and great-grandchildren, Makayla, Emily, Hayla, Micah, Nicholas, Gabriella, Tirzah, and Josiah; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to express their gratitude for the care and services provided to their mother by the staff members of the Fresenius Dialysis Center in Rocky Mount and Heartland Hospice Care, with special thanks to Tiffany. In addition, for the many hours assisting the family to provide in- home care, the family offers a special thank you to Faye Beckner. Funeral services will be conducted at Callaway Church of God on Saturday, November 10, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. with Pastors Sam Belisle and Bill Pagen officiating. Interment will follow in the McPherson Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends beginning at 12:30 p.m. until service time. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to “World Missions” in care of the Callaway Church of God, P.O. Box 211, Callaway, VA 24067.
