Grover W. “Bill” Fisher, age 90 of Callaway, died peacefully at Franklin Healthcare Tuesday October 9, 2007.
He was born August 7, 1917, son of the late Luther Milton, Sr. and Lula Prillaman Fisher. He was preceded in death by his wife Hazel Barnhart Fisher in 2002 after 61 years of marriage.
Mr. Fisher graduated from Callaway High School in 1935. He was the Texaco distributor in Franklin County until his retirement. He was a member of Highland United Methodist Church, a past member of Callaway Ruritan Club, and a life-time member of the Moose Lodge and a founding member of the Franklin County Gun Club. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing and bird watching. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend.
Surviving are five children and spouses Wileina Furrow of Callaway, Grover (G.W.) Jr. and Dottie Fisher of Martinsville, Gloria and Paul Kotseos of Chicago, James M. (Jim) and Linda Fisher of Chesapeake, Carol Ann and Gary Amos of Virginia Beach; thirteen grandchildren and eight spouses Jennifer and Jacob Bush, Kim and Chris Sams, Andee and Matt Smith, Brenda and Wade Falls, Sandra and Jason Wilburn, Kristina and Brian O’Shaughnessy, Tracy Kotseos, Cindy and Dan McNabb, Brandon Fisher, Jamie Fisher, Derek and Tara Amos, Karissa Amos, and Trinity Amos; two step grandchildren, Gregory Kotseos, Robert and Sara Kotseos; six great-grandchildren; two step great-grandchildren; two sisters Edith Paige Helms of Roanoke, Betty J. (Betsy) Guilliams of Callaway; one brother Howard L. Fisher and friend Ann Rumbough of Callaway, Carrie Fisher of Roanoke; sisters-in-law Arvilla May of Charlottesville, Loleine Fisher of Roanoke, and Catherine and Fred Landis of Roanoke; brother-in-law Harry N. (H.N.) Barnhart, Jr. of Boones Mill and special friend Reba Wood; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
The family thanks his faithful caregiver Wanda Hodges.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial be made to Highland United Methodist Church, 8535 Callaway Rd., Callaway VA 24067.
Funeral services will be conducted from Highland United Methodist Church 11:15 a.m. Friday with Rev. Beth Watkins officiating. Interment will follow in Mountain View Memorial Park.
His family will be receiving friends Thursday from 5-8 p.m. at Flora Funeral Service, Rocky Mount, Va.
