Born on December 23, 1941, Hannah was a loving, kind, quiet, gentle soul. Her mother was a teacher and her father farmed tobacco, cows, pigs, and chickens. Hannah grew up following him everywhere on the farm. She loved and cared for the all the baby animals. One year, she named three new baby calves Betty Jo, Bobby Jo and Billie Jo, after characters of the television show, Petticoat Junction. She loved to laugh and find ways to have fun. Most of all, she loved her family and took care of her parents until their deaths. Hannah called her nieces, Laura Lee, Carolyn, Sherrie and Kimmie often to talk about life events. She knew the family genealogy and shared many stories which had been passed down through the years. Hannah helped raise Phyllis Ann and Stephen on the farm. After retiring from tobacco, she cared for children in her home. She was close to her great nephew Westlee, his wife Tiffaney and their sons, Nathaan, Jackson and Maverick. Very special friends include Dorothy Martin, Ruby Mae Oakes, Marie Hatchett and Darryl Wingfield. The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at Roanoke Memorial Hospital, Salem Healthcare and Rehab and Good Samaritan Hospice.
Following her wishes, Hannah’s ashes will be buried in the Martin Family cemetery at 7926 Snow Creek Road, Penhook, VA. A graveside service will be held at 3:00 pm Sunday, December 5, conducted by Tamara Jaffe, Chaplain, Good Samaritan Hospice. Remembrances can be made in Hannah’s memory to the Snow Creek Volunteer Fire and Rescue Squad. Flora Funeral Service is handling the arrangements.
