Harold Lester Gammons, age 97 of Rocky Mount, went to be with the Lord on Monday, May 19, 2008.
He was born on June 10, 1910 in Washington, DC, a son of the late Herman Trafton and Susan Rachel Nourse Gammons. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Robert Gammons.
He was a member of Flint Hill United Methodist Church and a graduate of Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
Mr. Gammons retired as a patent attorney in New York and relocated to Rocky Mount where he retired from Boones Mill Elementary School after 15 years of service where he was loved by all the children.
He is survived by his wife, Sharon A. Gammons; children, Dave Gammons and wife Jane, Steve Gammons and wife Sharon, Joyce McGrath and husband Leo, Lesley Hall and husband Steve, Jennifer Young and husband Randy; 12 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; sister, Dorothy Fisk; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted from Flora Funeral Chapel 11 a.m. Thursday with Rev. Dr. Patricia M. Meadows and Rev. Deroy Campbell officiating.
Interment will follow in Franklin Memorial Park.
