Harold Melvin Turner, age 100 of Scruggs passed away Saturday, February 20, 2010. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sallie Blankenship Turner; parents, Elonza and Anna Turner; brothers, Kent Turner, Henry Turner; sisters, Avis Grubb, Stella Stabnow; and a son, William Aubrey Turner. Surviving are sons, Harold Wilbur Turner (Elizabeth), Boyd Turner (Lera); daughters, Louise Jones (Ford), Ercell Law, Cherold Thurman (Joe); adored grandchildren, Harold W. Turner, Jr., Bridget Rabel, Bonnie Collins, Lisa Poole, Stephanie Carlson, Tracey Turner, Michelle Turner, Wesley Turner, William Turner, Denise Crews, Trenda Turner, Rita Johnson and Rhonda Blankenship; precious great-grandchildren, Erica, Sydney, Lily, Trevor, Whitney, Tori, Kayla, Anna, Emily, Dalton, Maddie, Devin, Whitney Paige, and Chase. He is also survived by many wonderful nieces and nephews. Especially dear to him are nephews, Elonza Turner, Jim Turner, Joel Turner and Nathan Turner; and niece, Robin Cooper. He also valued the true friendship of his physician, Dr. Steve Lewis. He was a faithful member of Mt. Ivy Christian Church where he served as an Elder and attended Church each Sunday as long as his health allowed. He resided in the Scruggs community most of his life where he was a successful cattle dealer. He held strong political loyalty to his party and during the years made many good friends that kept in touch with him even in his later years. One of those truly valued friends was Quint Overton. He knew how truly blessed he had been in life by the years given to him, and he was grateful for each day he lived. Funeral services will be conducted from Flora Funeral Chapel 11 a.m. Tuesday with Minister Steve Pasley officiating. Interment will follow in Franklin Memorial Park. His family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Monday at Flora Funeral & Cremation Service, Rocky Mount.
