Harry Newton “H.N.” Barnhart, age 86 of Boones Mill, passed away Thursday, August 16, 2023 after a short illness.
Mr. Barnhart was a graduate of William and Mary College with a degree in Economics. After graduating, he began working on his father’s farm, Clover Meadow Dairy Farm, and became the owner in the 1960’s. He worked on the farm for over 60 years until retiring in 2021. He was preceded in death by his special friend and long-time companion, Reba Wood; his parents, Harry and Lecta Bussey Barnhart; son, Harry Joseph Barnhart; sisters, Hazel (Bill) Fisher, Arvilla (Elmore) May, Loleine Fisher, Dorothy Barnhart; mother to his children, Carolyn Yaggi Barnhart.
He is survived by his loving sister, Catherine (Fred) Landis; children, Ellen (Jim) Irons, Stephen (Beth) Barnhart; grandchildren, Ashley (Michael) Irons, Kristen Irons, Daniel (Brittany) Barnhart, Elizabeth Barnhart; great granddaughter, Leah Barnhart; special friend, Johnny Bowman; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
After raising his children, Mr. Barnhart enjoyed traveling with friends and family. He traveled worldwide including to the western United States, Alaska, Scotland, Russia, Germany, and to Canada to visit relatives. He loved meeting people and learning about culture and history.
Mr. Barnhart will be remembered for his love and devotion to his family, the many friendships he made through farming, his tremendous work ethic, his kind manner, his sense of humor, and his compassion and concern for others.
Special thank you to long-time employees and friends Martha Conner and Dale Cooper who continued to care for him and his farm until the end of his life.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to his church, Bethlehem Church of the Brethren.
Visitation will take place on Friday, August 18, 2023 from 6pm-8pm at Flora Funeral Home. Service will be officiated by Tony Emmons and will take place on Saturday, August 19, 2023 at 11 AM at Bethlehem Church of the Brethren. Burial will take place following the service at Mountain View Memorial Park. All are welcome to a meal following burial at Bethlehem Church of the Brethren.
