Dr. Harry Lee King, Jr., age 92 of Henry, died November 11, 2008. He was born August 1, 1916 to the late Harry Lee King, Sr. and Vida Hurt King. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by sisters Octavia Massey and Joy Kinzer; brothers Francis R. King and John Frederick King. Dr. King was a veteran of the US Navy serving as a Lieutenant in World War II. He was a 1932 graduate of Hargrave Military Academy, received a bachelor’s degree in 1936 from the University of Richmond, and a Master’s and Doctorate from the University of North Carolina (Chapel Hill). Dr. King was Professor Emeritus of French and Spanish at Wake Forest University. Surviving are sisters Viola Luckey of Miami FL, and Alice Sharpe of Atlanta, GA; ten nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, his family asks that donations be made to the Franklin County Historical Society P.O. Box 905, Rocky Mount, VA 24151. Funeral Services will be conducted from Flora Funeral Chapel 11:00 a.m. Wednesday. Interment will follow in the King Family Cemetery. His family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Wednesday at Flora Funeral Service, Rocky Mount.
