Hattie Brown Blankenship, age 88 of Wirtz peacefully went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, November 24, 2009 as she was surrounded by loved ones. She was preceded in death by her parents, Claude and Mattie Musgrove Brown; husband, Paul Blankenship; sister, Melva Brown; sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Marvin Lovelace; brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Frances Brown; and brothers-in-law, Henry Bandy and Jimmy Mitchell; special friend, Delphia Jefferson. Hattie was retired from Eli Lilly in Roanoke and was a member of Burnt Chimney United Methodist Church. She is survived by her children, Jerry and Lucy Blankenship of Moneta, Wendell and Kathy Blankenship of Blue Ridge, Linda and Carl Simpson of Penhook, Johnnie and Peggy Blankenship of Wirtz; grandchildren, Jimmy Lynch of Tampa, FL, Ricky and Lori Blankenship of Forest, Melinda Blankenship of Roanoke, Krissy and Chris Conner of Roanoke, Brandon and Amanda Blankenship of Glade Hill, Nicole Blankenship and Timothy L. Wright of Rocky Mount, Keith and Brandy Long of Lynchburg; great-grandchildren, Kaitlin and Anna Blankenship of Forest, Payton and Kinley Blankenship of Glade Hill, Morgan Long of Lynchburg, Grayson Wright of Rocky Mount; sisters and brothers-in-law, Irene and Russ Simmons of Christiansburg, Doris Mitchell of High Point, Louise and Rev. RC Wagner of Hardy, Betty and Lawrence Clark of Roanoke. In addition to immediate family members she is survived by countless nieces, nephews, and cousins; special friend, Edna Weaver; and caregivers, Lynn Wood, Missy Cooper, Lorraine Walton, Shirley Wray and Phyllis Varney. The family would like to extend thanks to the doctors, nurses and staff at Carilion Franklin Memorial Hospital for their care and kindness during her final hours. Funeral services will be conducted from Flora Funeral Chapel 11 a.m. Saturday with Rev. Burton White and Rev. DeRoy Campbell officiating. Interment will follow in Franklin Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Burnt Chimney United Methodist Church or to a charity of your choice.
