Hattie Divers

Hattie Ikenberry Divers, 89, formerly of Callaway, died Tuesday, November 25, 2008 in Roanoke. Mrs. Divers was born in the Antioch community on the family farm where she lived for most of her life. She graduated from Callaway High School, attended Bridgewater College and Radford College and taught at Callaway School for over 30 years. She was preceded in death by her husband Robert Lee Divers; a son, Robert Lee Divers Jr.; a sister, Lucille Barnhart; two brothers, Luther Ikenberry and Ernest Ikenberry. Surviving are her son, Thomas J. Divers and daughter-in-law Nita Irby; two grandchildren, Robert Lee Divers and Shannon Virginia Divers, all of Ithaca, NY; one daughter, Annette Divers Norton and son-in-law, Roger Norton, of Gordonsville; a sister, Florence Covey of Roanoke; several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be conducted from Antioch Church of the Brethren at 11 a.m. Saturday, November 28, 2008 with Pastor Tom Powers oficiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family suggests memorials be made to Antioch Church of the Brethren, 2996 Callaway Road, Rocky Mount, VA 24151 or a charity of your choice. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Flora Funeral Service, S. Main Street, Rocky Mount, Va.
