Hazel Via Hale

Hazel Marie Via Hale, age 84 of Henry, slipped quietly from this life into the waiting arms of Jesus on July 9, 2017 after a two year long struggle with cancer. Hazel will be long remembered for her love of family, community involvement, collection of historical clippings, thousands of pictures that captured the essence of every important event of her life and by admirers near and far for the beautiful and joyous Christmas displays that she and her husband Roy tirelessly presented year after year for the enjoyment of hundreds annually. She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Lessie Via. Surviving are her devoted spouse of sixty-four years, Roy Hale, Jr.; three children, Donna Steigleder (Lynn), Ronnie Hale (Barbara), Larry Hale (Holly); eight grandchildren, Sarah Johnson (Greg), Daniel Russell (Katie), Eric Steigleder (Erin), Matthew Hale (Aubrey), Amanda Hale, Jessica Hale, Lauren Hale, Emily Hale; and three great-grandchildren, Eli Johnson, Jameson Russell, Clark Steigleder; three sisters, Ada Beeghly, Nellie Rush (Frank), Ann Sigmon (Laymon). The family wishes to thank the many people who have offered their love and support over the past two years to Hazel and Roy during her illness but especially to the staff at Carilion Clinic Hospice who have made this ordeal so much easier to manage. They also ask that in lieu of flowers donations be made on her behalf to the Henry Community Center, which was so dear to her, at 5241 Henry Rd, Henry VA. 24102. Visitation will be held at Flora Funeral Service, 665 South Main Street in Rocky Mount on Friday, July 14, from 6-8 p.m. with the funeral service to be held Saturday at 11 a.m. Interment will follow in Republican Church Cemetery on Timberline Road across from 2300 Republican Church immediately afterwards.
