Helen Minnick

Helen Webber Minnick, 85, passed away peacefully at home Thursday, May 18, 2017 with her loving daughters by her side. Helen was born on March 27, 1932, in Roanoke, to the late Harry and Elizabeth Webber. She is also preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Don Minnick, her daughter Dona Minnick and her brother, Harry Webber, Jr. Helen loved serving the Lord, her husband, her children and others in the community. In the early years, Helen graduated from James Madison University with a Home Economics degree and worked as a home economist for the Appalachian Power Company. After marrying Don, they moved to Rocky Mount where she taught school until they started a family. Helen’s dream came true when she and Don had three children and she got to be a stay-at-home Mom. While Helen’s family always came first, she also was involved with her church, played in a bridge club for years, maintained her rose garden for years, loved to read and swim and was an accomplished seamstress. Upon meeting Helen, a person immediately felt comfortable with her because of her genuine kindness, compassion and interest in their lives. She never met a stranger! Helen is survived by daughters, Lubeth (Rob) Jones of Roanoke and Michelle (Jon) Obenshain of Rocky Mount, brother, Joseph (Pat) Webber, Sr. of Harrisburg, PA, sister, Joanne Sutherland of Smithfield, NC and many nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the staff at Carilion Clinic Hospice at Franklin Memorial Hospital for their loving care and support. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. on Monday, May 22, 2017, at Rocky Mount Christian Church, with Pastor Matt Ricks officiating. Burial will follow at Franklin Memorial Park on Route 220. The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 3:00 p.m. prior to the service. Flowers are welcome or memorial donations can be made to the Franklin County Humane Society or the Franklin County Public library.
