Henry Clay Brown, age 98, of the Scruggs Community of Franklin Country passed away on Sunday, April 22, 2012 in a local nursing home. Born December 11, 1913 to the late James Loudon Brown and Fannie Price Morgan Brown, he was also preceded in death by his wife of 69 years, Mary Byrd Brown; his brothers Charles, Randolph, James and Walter and their spouses; and his sisters Neva, Angie and Pearl and their spouses; his sons-in-law Geryl G. Wade, Sr. and Ronald L. Davis, his brothers-in-law William T. Byrd and James McMahon, his sisters-in-law Julia B. McMahon and Reva W. Byrd; one niece and two nephews. He is survived by his daughters Shirley B. Wade of Bedford and Jeanie B. Davis of Franklin County; his son Byron W. Brown and his fiancée Rebecca Ashwell of Troutville; six grandchildren: Debi Pasley of Fresno, CA, Vincent and Rebecca Davis of Hardy, Kevin and Ricarda Davis of Franklin County, Erica and Angela Davis of High Point, NC, Nevil and Karen Davis of Roanoke, and Geryl and Melissa Wade of Bedford; ten great-grandchildren: Leslie, Justin, Shawn, Lauren, Daisy, Daniel, Garrett, Benjamin and Jackson Davis, Heather Davis Carter and her husband James, Rhiannon, Caitlin and Morgan Pasley, Evan Jones and his wife Amanda, Ryan and Sarah Wade. He is also survived by six great-great-grandchildren, seventeen nieces and nephews, his sister-in-law Margie H. Byrd and his brother-in-law Clarence W. Byrd. Funeral services will be conducted at Flora Funeral Chapel on Wednesday, April 25 at 11:00 AM by Elder Larry Hollandsworth, with burial to follow in Franklin Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, April 24 from 5:00 to 8:00 PM and other times at the home of Jeanie Davis at 250 Woodfield Lane, Moneta. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Scruggs Volunteer Fire Department, 2130 Bluewater Drive, Moneta, VA 24121.
