Henry Cabot Thornton, Sr. age 86 of Penhook died Wednesday, August 1, 2007 in Memorial Hospital of Martinsville and Henry County.
He was born on September 20, 1920 a son of the late Charlie and Belle Jefferson Thornton.
Mr. Thornton was a long time member of Cool Springs Christian Church where he served as Trustee and was Elder Emeritus. He was a retired farmer in the Sago community and a member of Modern Woodmen of America.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his brothers, Renford, Larry and Everette Thornton; and his sister, Lizzie Mayhan.
Surviving are his loving wife of 65 years, Ethridge Lawrence Thornton; son, H. C. Thornton, Jr., Pittsburg, Pennsylvania; daughter, Donna Collins, Martinsville; grandchildren, Brian Collins and Ann Marie Collins; brother, Joseph Thornton, College Park, Maryland; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted from Flora Funeral Chapel 2 p.m. Saturday with Rev. Brian Vaughan and Rev. Roy Parker officiating. Interment will follow in the Adkins-Lawrence Family Cemetery in Pittsylvania County.
