Herman Ambrose Hunt, age 81 of Rocky Mount passed away Friday, November 7, 2014 at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital following a brief illness. He was a United States Army veteran having served in Korea. Mr. Hunt retired from Roanoke Electric Steel with 46 ½ years of service, was a member of Franklin Heights Baptist Church, loved NASCAR racing, bluegrass music especially the banjo. Traveling was great enjoyment for him and he loved to "piddle" in the garage and outside. Preceding him in death were his parents, Roosevelt and Lottie Hodges Hunt; sister Bernice Dillon; mother-in-law, Etta Wilburn; brothers-in-law, Bobby and Danny Wilburn; an uncle, Arthur Hunt. Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Emily Marie Hunt; daughter, Susan Russell (Alan); son, Gary Hunt; grandchildren, Lindsay Young, Christianna Hunt and Ambrose Hunt; nephews, Mike Dillon and Steve Wilburn; niece, Cindy Wilburn. Funeral services will be conducted at Franklin Heights Baptist Church, 2:30 p.m. Sunday, November 9, 2014 with Dr. Stan Parris and Rev. J. Larry Holland officiating. Interment will follow in Franklin Memorial Park. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the Building Fund of Franklin Heights Baptist Church. The family expresses a special thank you to the Doctors and Nurses at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital for their compassionate care during Mr. Hunts stay. His family will receive friends 5:00 p.m. ? 8:00 p.m. Saturday at Flora Funeral Service and Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
